Anduril Raises $450 Million in Series D Funding

6/17/2021

IRVINE, Calif. (June 17, 2021) — Defense technology company Anduril Industries today announced $450 million in Series D funding and a post-money valuation of $4.6 billion, more than double the company’s previous valuation in July 2020.

The funding round was led by Elad Gil, an early investor in the company, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, 8VC, Founders Fund, General Catalyst, Lux Capital, Valor Equity Partners, and D1 Capital Partners.

“We are on a mission to transform the defense capabilities of the U.S. and our allies with the technologies shaping today’s battlefields, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, sensor fusion, and autonomous systems,” said Anduril co-founder and CEO Brian Schimpf. “This new round of funding reflects our confidence that the Department of Defense sees the same problems we do, and is serious about deploying emerging technologies at scale across land, sea, air, and space domains.”

Anduril’s Lattice AI software platform, hardware products, and people are currently in the field actively supporting operations with the Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the UK Ministry of Defence, as well as other agencies.

Lattice uses computer vision, machine learning, and mesh networking to fuse real-time sensor data to create a single, autonomous operating picture and command and control platform. Lattice ties together Anduril’s family of site security solutions deployed along the southwest border to provide situational awareness, and on military bases in the U.S. and abroad to autonomously detect, track, and interdict intrusions by people, drones, and other vehicles. Lattice is also the operating system that enables Anduril’s autonomous unmanned aircraft, such as the new Ghost 4 sUAS, to perform their missions.

“Anduril is transforming the way the U.S. Department of Defense procures, scales, and deploys new technology. Anduril’s product suite increases the safety of people serving our country and can protect key national infrastructure,” said Elad Gil. “Anduril expands the sensor and drone toolset available to the government in a way that modernizes and extends its efforts while also having the potential to increase efficiency and save lives.”

In the last twelve months, Anduril reached significant milestones including:

  • Achieved its first Program of Record. Anduril was awarded a contract with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to aid in situational awareness at the border. With this contract, Anduril moved from a pilot program to a Program of Record in less than three years — the fastest transition of a program in the national security space in 7 decades.
  • The acquisition of Area-I, a market leader in air-launched effects and go-to source of agile-launched, tube-stored aircraft, such as the Agile-Launched, Tactically-Integrated, Unmanned System (ALTIUS) platform, which offers unrivaled endurance and payload capacity in its size class.
  • Office expansions to Boston, Seattle, and London, and a new corporate headquarters in Orange County, Calif., with room to support 2,100 employees.
  • The launch of Ghost 4, the world’s most intelligent small, autonomous military drone designed to meet the needs of military users. Ghost 4 was recently awarded a prestigious Edison Award for innovation in aerospace flight technology.
